Major General Peter Chiarelli, Commanding General, 1st Cavalry Division, and Major General William Webster, Commanding General, 3rd Infantry Division, brief the media days before the transfer of authority from 1st CAV to 3rd ID. MG Chiarelli talks about the accomplishments of improving infrastructure, training Iraqi security forces, and holding the Iraqi election. MG Webster talks about reorganization in the division since it was last in Iraq and contining the work of the 1st CAV, specifically in training more Iraqi security forces. About half of 3rd ID Soldiers coming back to Iraq were in the initial combat operations. They give observations on the insurgency, equipping Iraqi security forces, Iraqi perception of the Coalition forces, building capabilities of the Iraqi security forces in Baghdad, Iraqi forces conducting anti-insurgent operations with Iraqi police, and overcoming intimidation. They conclude with comments about how security conditions have improved on Haifa Street, how troops rotate within U.S. units, and that Soldiers have pride in this mission.
