Pfc. Shawn C. Leroy from Lafayette, Louisiana discusses his experience as a high school student at the National Guard Patriot Academy at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Complex in Butlerville, Ind. Leroy worked several jobs when he quit high school to support his little brother and parents who had fallen into a life of drugs.
Leroy is a graduate of the last class of the Patriot Academy which began as a pilot program in 2009 to offer a second chance to new recruits to earn their high school diplomas and serve their country. The program will case its organizational colors in January, 2013. Leroy is a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard.
