SGT Michael Polmanteer Nutrition Care Specialist Duty Station: Fort Wainwright, Alaska Hometown: Allegan, Mich. Soldier Show Performer
SGT Michael Polmanteer launched his stage career at age 9 by singing a Tim McGraw song to a girl he liked during a talent show at Dawson Elementary School in Allegan, Mich. Polmanteer does not remember the name of the song but he remembers the name of the girl. Throughout high school, Polmanteer was a member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s District, State and All-State Honors Choirs. During his senior year, Polmanteer lost his primary musical inspiration when his grandmother Mary died, which prompted him to stop singing. “She was really the only person in my immediate family who came to all my events and supported me in everything I had ever done with singing,” said Polmanteer, 22, who took a two-year hiatus from the microphone. “After I got back from deployment [in Iraq], I spoke with a psychologist and it brought back a lot of memories. I thought to myself, ‘Why would I stop singing? That’s not what she would want me to do.’” His favorite performers are Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts.
