Many Asia Pacific nations are geographically situated on what is known as the ring of fire… an area prone to natural disasters. The 2013 Association Of Southeast Asian Nations or asean (ah-zi-ahn) defence ministers meeting is bringing 18 Pacific nations together for humanitarian assistance disaster relief and military medicine training. China as well as the U.S. is participating this year in Brunei. Col Doug Pasnik, officer in charge of U.S. forces taking part, met with Colonel Sahat Hamzah (saa-haat hahm-za) commander of Brunei’s Multinational Coordination Center and China’s Chief Of Emergency Office, Senior Col Wu Xihua (woo-she-wha) to discuss what each country hopes to contribute.
