Ms. Alice Akichi YAPO Owner, Michele Yakice Designs (textiles and apparel). Ms. Alice Yapo is the owner of a textile and apparel manufacturer, Michele Yakice Designs, which produces custom fabrics and clothing for sale within Cote d’Ivoire, and for export in Africa. In 1990, Ms. Yapo founded a vocational school in order to train youth in fabric design, production, sewing and accounting. For the past three years, she has partnered with The Orange Foundation to provide trainings to up to 20 young, disadvantaged women each year. Upon completion of the program, each participant receives a sewing machine and supplies to open a business. They are also frequently hired at Michele Yakice Designs. Ms. Yapo has served as a representative of the Ivorian Federation of Small and Medium-sized Businesses to the AGOA forum. Ms. Yapo is interested in improving her company’s production capacity, and in developing a line of ready-to-wear clothing that can be exported more widely in the region, and around the world.
