SAN PEDRO, Calif. -- The U.S Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team Los Angeles/Long Beach, working with personnel from the Fort Macarthur Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro, released two rehabilitated sea lions back into the wild today off Catalina Island.
The sea lions had been at the rehabilitation center after they were both captured in the Redondo Beach area on seperate occasions in July. Both sea lions had been at the rehabilitation center before, so they were released off Catalina Island this time in the hopes that they would not find thier way back into a heavily populated area. The sea lions had become too accustomed to humans.
