U.S. Marines and Navy Sailors with force reconnaissance platoon, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), load and launch combat rubber raiding crafts from the USS Bataan (LHD 5) off the East Coast, at sea, Dec. 13, 2013, as part of an over-the-horizon insertion for an amphibious assault exercise. The MEU is scheduled to deploy in early 2014 to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
