Lead in: Hawaii Army National Guard Officer Candidate School recently joined forces with the University of Hawaii Army ROTC for their Spring Field Training Exercise.
The exercise started with a 3 mile ruck march from University of Hawaii to Diamond Head where the cadets and cadre where air-lifted via UH-60 Blackhawks to the training range of the 298th regional training institute. Once the candidates and cadets arrived they where issued weapons and ran through scenarios designed to enhance the prospective officers understanding of Army leadership techniques and tactical operations. The 3rd year cadets where evaluated on their leadership abilities by the ROTC and OCS staffs. Command and control was provided by 4th year military science students who are due to commission in May of 2014. The National Guard Officer candidates where either integrated in to the ROTC platoons where they gained valuable experience operating in a joint environment or played roles as local nationals giving realism to the training.
