It’s a little corner store, much like its civilian counterparts stateside. It gets big business. A Marine or Sailor can find lots of things. Pretty much whatever they need for a quick snack. Or even a missing uniform item. The biggest profit maker? No longer for sale. A new policy by the Department of the Navy limits sales of hard liquor and spirits for exchanges adjacent to quarters. Like this one. Instead of whining about it, the Marines here had to plug the gap by thinking outside the box.
SSgt Ruben Landin, Store Manager:
The management team got together, we’re Marines we’re customers too. We have a pretty good idea of what we need in the store. And we uh, started talking to the customers and actually seeing what we need to increase and finally got ahold of our inventory levels. So things run a lot smoother and we got what we need for the customers.

Reporter: Some Marines aren’t big fans of change, but so far a fresher, more diverse selection supplemented the needs of those frequenting this shop and helped bring the numbers back up.
SB: Cpl Vincent Davidson, Store Patron
Uh, yeah the change has been dramatic. The selection they have with proteins and things like that, and the workout products we have. Have gone up dramatically. Different selections for your microwave foods since we all have to have since we live in the bricks have gone up a lot.
Reporter: Reporting from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, I’m Marine Staff Sergeant Robert Durham.
