Soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard’s 460th Chemical Company headquartered in Augusta took their training to the test today with their counterpart Chemical experts from the Latvian Army. The soldiers are here in Adazi, Latvia this week as part of Operation Silver Arrow, a multinational, Latvian-led training mission in conjunction with United States Army Europe and Operation Atlantic Resolve.
The soldiers will encounter a simulated chemical hazard while clothed in their protective gear while leaders monitor their reactions and training in procedures.
Soldiers identify a chemical hazard, photograph and catalog it, communicate that information back to their headquarters, and return to decontamination showers after the mission.
This is just the latest in a string of Michigan-Latvian collaborated training events which has seen these Chemical soldiers working closely this week.
The Latvian-Michigan relationship has been growing for more than twenty years, and is deeply ingrained within the leadership of both militaries.
Silver Arrow continues through October 5th, after which Michigan’s soldiers will prepare to return home.
