Gen John Allen, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, and his deputy, Ambassador Brett McGurk, met on January 12 with Kurdistan Regional Government officials in Erbil. They met Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Barzani and others to discuss progress by IKR and ISF forces in the fight against ISIL. They praised recent successful IKR and ISF operations supported by coalition airstrikes and reiterated the United States government support for Iraqi Security Forces. They had further meetings with Iraqi officials in Baghdad yesterday. Allen held a press conference this morning in Baghdad to answer questions and give his assessment on what he’s seen thus far.
