U.S. Marines, sailors and station firefighters respond to a simulated explosion resulting in numerous casualties who are taken to the Branch Health Clinic during Exercise Active Shield 2011, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Active Shield 2011 is an annual U.S.-Japan combined exercise designed to increase bilateral coordination in support of Installation Force Protection Operations and strengthen cooperation between U.S. military forces and Japan Self Defense Forces in support of Japan-U.S. security alliance.
