To better understand the capabilities of the two countries’ forces, the first airborne operation in Japan between paratroopers with USARAK’s 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division and the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force’s 3rd Battalion, 1st Airborne Brigade, Central Readiness Force was conducted as part of North Wind 2015. The two-week, bilateral field training and command-post exercise promotes an increase in combat readiness and interoperability amongst U.S. Army personnel and the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force to respond to a wide range of crisis contingencies in the Asian-Pacific region.
