Supporting state and federal missions is a mainstay of the National Guard existence. March’s unit training assembly is a prime example of the Hawaii Air National Guard's Training to accomplish its dual mission.

Two days before the March drill, the Hawaii Air National Guards’ 199th Fighter Squadron kicked off it’s second “Sentry Aloha” of the year, a large scale aerial combat and maneuver exercise centered around the Hawaii F-22 Raptors. During the two week long exercise the Hawaii Air National Guard hosts around 1000 air crew and pilots from Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Iowa, and Maine Air National Guard units, along with crews from the Active Duty Navy. The exercise will allow Hawaii’s F-22 to fly missions along-side A-10s, F-15s, F-16s, FA-18s and even a specially equipped reconnaissance C-130. All the while being supported by KC-135 strato-tankers from Hawaii, Iowa and Maine. According to a Sentry Aloha spokesperson “the experience gained during this exercise is key to the Air National Guard and the Air Force Staying Mission ready.”

Meanwhile on the other side of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Loadmasters from the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 204 Air Lift Squadron and its Active Duty Component, the 535th Air Lift Squadron, held C-17 load training for the Hawaii National Guard's CERF-P team and the HIANG's 297th Air Traffic Control and Warning Squadron. An training evolution that is key to the units' ability to deploy to Hawaii’s outer islands or anywhere else in the pacific in response to a natural or man-made disaster.
