The Marines and sailors of 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division conducted a deactivation ceremony for the unit aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., April 1, 2015. The unit was reactivated in 2007 as part of the continuing Global War on Terror where they were deployed in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom earning awards such as the Iraq Campaign Streamer with two Bronze Stars, the Afghanistan Campaign Streamer with two Bronze Stars and the Global War on Terrorism Service Streamer.
