Members of the Coast Guard 9th District in Cleveland, Ohio, wish the Coast Guard a happy 225th birthday. The Coast Guard celebrates and traces its history to August 4, 1790, when President George Washington signed a law that authorized construction of ten revenue cutters, and under the leadership of Alexander Hamilton established the earliest fleet of cutters which was the precursor of the modern Coast Guard.
