The Mississippi River Commission visited the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers in August 2015 and met with community and business leaders and citizens along these waterways. The interaction will help shape a vision for the development of plans to improve the condition of the Mississippi River Basin, foster navigation, promote commerce, and reduce flood risk. The commission traveled onboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi, the largest diesel towboat in the United States, which has three 2,100-horsepower engines to power the vessel.
