The 249th Airlift Squadron, Air National Guard, is the first C-17 squadron in Alaska to deliver supplies to the Arctic Ocean in support of the Navy's ICEX 2016. The Navy's Arctic Submarine Laboratory set up a temporary camp on a sheet of ice, or ice floe, to maintain submarine readiness and support arctic objectives and initiatives.
