Workers install a cofferdam on the bank of the Savannah River as part of what will become the foundation for a series of Speece cones. The cones, which are part of the dissolved oxygen injection system, will super-oxygenate river water and inject it back into the Savannah River to maintain current levels of dissolved oxygen as the shipping channel is deepened.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, oversees the SHEP, including environmental mitigation. CDM Constructors is the prime contractor for the installation of the dissolved oxygen injection system.
