2nd Lt. Beau DeLeon, Pilot, 141st Air Refueling Squadron, 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard describes his decision to join the Air Force, the transition from enlisted to officer and becoming a father while training to become a pilot. DeLeon, who grew up in Browns Mills, N.J., was inspired to be a pilot by his father who was a pilot in his native Guatemala and by watching planes take off and land at nearby Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. DeLeon stresses the importance of a strong work ethic during his enlisted career and the value he will place in the enlisted corps in the rest of his military career as an officer.
