160727-N-GI544-001 PEARL HARBOR (July 27, 2016) Naval Facilities Engineering Command Hawaii Environmental Restoration manages Red Hill water monitoring well drilling in preparation to install the first of four additional monitoring wells in accordance with the Administrative Order on Consent agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Hawaii Department of Health on Oahu. The Red Hill facility was built between 1940 and 1943. Each of its 20 cylindrical tanks is 250 feet tall and 100 feet in diameter. Each can hold up to 12.5 million gallons of fuel. Red Hill is a national strategic asset that provides fuel to operate in the Pacific while ensuring drinking water in the area remains safe.
