The President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans
and Pacific Islanders, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs are proud to launch the first ever Forum on
AAPI Military Members and Veterans.
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are now the
fastest growing racial group in America. From 2000 to 2010, the AAPI
population grew by 46%. As their population continues to grow, more and
more AAPIs are answering the call to serve their nation in the Department
of Defense. In 2009, Los Angeles County, California, reported that Asian
Americans made up 22% of the recruiting population. That same year Asian
Americans made up 4.4% of the U.S. Army Officer Corps in the nation.
Currently, citizens of Guam serve in the military at a higher rate per
capita than nearly all other states in the nation.
