It’s the day before the inauguration and Washington D.C.is buzzing with preparations for the historical day. The National Guard is supporting 11 different Civilian agencies, including the Capitol Police and National Parks Service . Civilian law enforcement officers are responsible for the safety and security of all the personnel during the inaugural events. The National Guard provides assistance to civilian authorities as requested. About half of the 7,500 guardsmen will be dedicated to security, including crowd and traffic control and assisting with the flow of people in and out of the area ensuring the safety and security of all in attendance.
Before the long mission ahead citizen soldiers grab a quick bite just outside The National Mall.
National Guardsmen are staged at the United States Department of Agriculture building where they set up, operate and maintain the Joint Incident Site Communication Capability, or JISCC system. The system provides satellite-based telephone, network and email capability.
The success of our operations are due to training, professionalism and the dedication of our citizen soldiers and airmen from all across the country who volunteered to serve in support of our country’s peaceful transition of power.
