The Cobra Gold 17 (CG17) Staff Exercise (STAFFEX) is a scenario-based counter-piracy mission that includes significant humanitarian complications, and various other senior leader engagements with the intent to sustain and reinforce the foundation and framework necessary to prepare a combined task force to respond rapidly and effectively to regional crises. Cobra Gold 17 is the largest Theater Security Cooperation exercise in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and is an integral part of the U.S. commitment to strengthen engagement in the region. Similar to last year, Cobra Gold 17 emphasizes coordination on civic action, such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, seeking to expand regional cooperation and collaboration in these vital areas.
