International Women’s Day Event
MC3 Jake Carrillo - Reporting (00;08)
Adm. Michelle Howard – Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples(00;21)
Some of NATO’s top women spoke about gender-related issues on International Women’s Day. Petty Officer Jake Carrillo has the story from Allied Joint Force Command Naples.
NARR - An auditorium packed with members of the NATO alliance attended the International Women’s Day Event at Allied Joint Force Command Naples.
ADM. Michelle Howard and a panel of distinguished women spoke about women’s history, hurdles they’ve overcome and gender equality.
[Howard] - “International Women’s Day started out as a rallying call for citizens around the world. Its major focus was really women having the right to vote. As women achieved the right to vote, its rallying call became about women having the full-fledged rights of citizens of their different nations.”
NARR - International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
[Howard] - “So, it’s worthwhile once a year for us to recognize those issues, to recognize the leadership, particularly women leaders who came before us, who helped pave the way for where women are today. And, to take time to recognize that if they could be bold for change, we can be bold for change.”
NARR - From Naples, Italy - I’m Petty Officer Jake Carrillo.
