The Patching Ceremony is a significant event in the career of an Iowa Army National Guard Soldier. When a Soldier returns home from Advanced Individual Training and following in-processing, these Soldiers muster together and are welcomed back by their unit commanders and the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard, Maj. Gen. Timothy Orr.
Orr said he implemented the program because he wants to recognize returning Soldiers for their achievements and as a way to welcome them into their units with family and friends present. The Iowa National Guard has three distinct major commands these men and women will transition into – the 34th Infantry Division, 671st Troop Command, and the 734th Regional Support Group.
