California National Guard Soldiers with the 40th Infantry Division team up with CAL Fire personnel to conduct annual wild fire training in Martell, California, near Ione. The purpose of the training is to allow the interagency crews that pilot firefighting helicopters, as well as command teams on the ground, to get familiar with each other and establish a standard operating procedure for the upcoming fire season. The California National Guard can support CAL Fire in the event of a large wildland fire where additional assets are needed.
