Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force service members fast rope from a MV-22 Osprey and U.S. Marines fast rope off of a Japanese CH-46 Sea Knight during Forest Light, at Somagahara, Japan, March 9, 2017. Forest Light is designed to maintain readiness and interoperability of JGSDF and deployed U.S. Marine Corps forces to ensure an effective and rapid response to any contingency in the region. The JGSDF soldiers are attached to 30th Infantry Regiment. The U.S. Marines are with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, currently supporting 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force through the unit deployment program.
