Vehicle gun crews from across the U.S. Army Reserve train at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin during Operation Cold Steel. In a 12-day training cycle, Soldiers receive classroom instruction and weapon familiarization on their vehicle mounted weapons, ranging from the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, M240B Machine Gun, and the MK 19 Grenade Launcher. After spending time in classes they then continue their training in a virtual environment, practicing commands and procedures and communication among the entire crew. Once at the range, they practice shooting the weapons unmounted on a qualification range. The crews then move to vehicle mounted weapons which culminate all they have learned previously to qualify their gun crew on their specified weapons.
