The Defense Department is using less energy. Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., was one of the first military bases to adopt solar panels to increase energy efficiency. Solar panels help to minimize the base’s carbon footprint and use an energy source that is abundant at Nellis, which averages about 160 days of sun per year.
