Approximately 35 Airmen from the 180th Fighter Wing joined more than 200 service members from the Army Reserve, Navy, Air Force Reserve and other National Guard units to provide no-cost medical care to residents in North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas from Wednesday, Aug. 2, through Thursday, Aug. 10. 2017. The mission called Smoky Mountain Medical is part of the DOD’s Innovative Readiness Training program. The 180th Fighter Wing was the lead unit for the mission, which partnered with local health departments to provide non-emergency medical treatments and screenings, fillings and tooth extractions, eye exams and single-vision prescription glasses.
