7 Foundational Movement – Hinge
Primary Muscle Groups – Hamstring, Glutes
Secondary Muscle Groups – Lower Back
Preparation:
The Marine will start by standing on the band with feet shoulder width apart. They will hinge as far as they can and then squat the remainder of the distance needed for them to grasp the middle of the band. The Marines hips should be lower than the shoulders
Execution:
The Marine will stand up while grasping the band with both hands, squeezing the glute and keeping the back flat until the hips are fully locked out. At the top of the motion the Marine’s shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles will be in a straight line when viewed from the side. They will break at the hips first and reverse the motion to return to the starting position.
Common Mistakes: - Rounding of the back
- Shooting the hips up first
- Squatting too much and not hinging
