Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) jeopardize the safety and success of our warfighters. Dr. Jeff Heggemeier, physicist with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate, presents his team’s development of a technology that uses microwaves to destroy IEDs from safe distances. He and his team deployed to Afghanistan in order to test their technology – nicknamed MAX POWER – by riding in front of Marine convoys to take out IEDs.
