U.S. Marine Corps Training and Education Command

    7 Foundational Movement – Lunge
Primary Muscle Groups – Glutes, Hamstrings, Quadriceps
    Secondary Muscle Groups – N/A

    Preparation:
The Marine will place the sandbag over the right or left shoulder with feet hip width apart.

    Execution:
The Marine will step forward with the same side leg that the sandbag is on into a lunge, with the front foot flat on the deck and the back knee off the deck. From the bottom of the lunge the Marine will drive off the front foot to return to the starting position but in doing so will bring the forward knee to hip height and hold for a two count at the top of the motion. They will start their next lunge from this position.
Common Mistakes: - Not keeping the shoulders square
    - Not maintaining balance when knee is up
    - Letting back knee touch the deck
