Coast Guardsmen from the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, homeported in Alameda, California, and Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron from Jacksonville, Florida, interdict a suspected drug smuggling vessel Sept. 3, 2017, after monitoring the vessel for more than an hour with their unmanned aerial system. The Coast Guardsmen approached the suspect vessel under the cover of darkness to apprehend four suspected smugglers and seize more than 1,900 pounds of cocaine from the vessel. The Coast Guard and its interagency partners have interdicted or disrupted over 455,000 pounds of cocaine in Fiscal Year 2017 worth more than $6 billion.
