The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began a debris removal initiative in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, Oct. 12, 2017. USACE is working with local contractors to remove trash and debris that has been piling up throughout the city and transport it to the municipal landfill in Toa Baja. The contractors started working early in the morning and by mid-afternoon had collected and moved over 500 cubic yards of debris and garbage. The Department of Defense is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the local government and other organizations to provide disaster relief in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
