Philadelphia – This is an overview of Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division’s (NSWCPD) Advanced Carbon Dioxide Removal Unit (ACRU) program at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. Legacy CO2 removal equipment on submarines is costly to maintain and utilizes a hazardous liquid. The new ACRU uses 21st Century nanomaterials to replace the hazardous material and is capable of a 40% higher CO2 removal rate in the same footprint. This is one of a multi-part series highlighting the technical capabilities of NSWCPD. (U.S. Navy video / Released).
