Moments before assuming command of US Army Europe, Lt General Christopher Cavoli is promoted from Major General at a modest ceremony in US Army Headquarters, Wiesbaden, Germany. General Curtis Scaparotti NATO supreme allied commander and commander of the United States European command presided.
The assumption of responsibility that marks Cavoli’s new role of commanding US Army forces in Europe is next on the agenda. Cavoli takes over from Major General Tim McGuire who sat in interim command for the last weeks after the retirement of LT General Ben Hodges.
As well as a strong Army track record Cavoli also has a strong connection with Europe
Cavoli’s immediate challenge is to oversee US Army Europe’s so called “year of integration.” Which, whilst thanks to Cavoli’s predecessors has already begun, is only just getting started.
