On Friday, February 9th, Winter Storm Mateo moved across Southern Michigan, dumping snow on the Detroit Metro area, and leaving many schools and businesses closed or with late openings. The National Guard does not close, but it does keep safety as a top priority. The Adjutant General (TAG) for the State of Michigan, enacted the state's "Inclement Weather Policy" for members of the Michigan National Guard. The purpose is to allow members of the National Guard to exercise caution while commuting to and from their place of work. For some, this meant starting their day at a later time, while for others it was a day off. However, many here at Selfridge fall into a special category: Essential Personnel. Defenders, Civil Engineers, Fire/Rescue, Airfield Ops, and Command Post are just some examples of essential personnel, and for Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and the hundreds of men and women make up it's full-time workforce, the mission depends on them.
