180226-N-TP832-001 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2018) Naval Station (NAVSTA) Mayport hosts an artifact exchange ceremony between the Canadian armed forces and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). The JSO returned artifacts belonging to Royal Canadian Navy pilot Lt. William Thomas Barry Troy, who lost his life in a training accident near Jacksonville Beach due to dense fog and harsh weather conditions during a joint training exercise in 1958. The artifacts found by a Jacksonville Park Ranger were believed to have been unearthed during the latest hurricane season and included a parachute and life vest with Troy’s name stenciled on the material.
