The 8th Theater Sustainment command celebrated the arrival the U.S Army Vessel Brehon B. Somervell, Logistic Support Vessel-3 (LSV-3) with Hawaiian Blessing ceremony and capability tour aboard the vessel, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Feb. 6 2018.
Maj. Gen. Susan A. Davidson, commanding general of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command was the guest speaker for the event, highlighting that the addition of this new strategic asset to region greatly increases readiness. While many may not realize the Army has boats, the vessels provide both intra- island and international transport of equipment and vehicles for Soldiers and Marines across Hawaii.
The LSV-3 is one of only eight in the entire Army and is the third one assigned to the 8th Special Troops Battalion, 8th Theater Sustainment Command.
The Blessing was provided by Kahu La’ Akea, and assisting him in the untying of a 60-foot Maile Lei was the Vessel Master Chief Warrant Officer Four Ned Walsh, and the 168th Transportation Detachment Sergeant Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin Thrett.
