To demonstrate adaptations that conform to the most common Army Music ceremonial practices, individual mastery of ceremonial marching provides a firm foundation for delivering a collective performance that reflects a commitment to perfection. Ceremonial marching basics include formation, attention, alignment, left and right facing movements, flanking movements, forward march, mark time, halt, and turns. Musicians are assigned positions in the formation based on instrument size and ability to project sound. To increase ceremonial music's effectiveness, group instruments with similar musical parts or timbres together to the maximum extent practical.
