Marines with the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and U.S. Army Special Forces Soldiers conduct security operations in Utqiagvik, Alaska, March 15th as part of the Joint Force Land Component Command in support of exercise Arctic Edge 18. U.S. Army Alaska, at the direction of Alaskan Command is hosting Arctic Edge 2018, a biennial, large-scale, joint training exercise that prepares and tests the U.S. military’s ability to operate tactically in the extreme cold-weather conditions found in Arctic environments. As the JFLCC, U.S. Army Alaska is testing readiness and training new capabilities to defend the homeland on behalf of the U.S. Northern Command.
