Only about 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 19,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines. This handful of dedicated DIs are entrusted with sustaining a more than 243-year legacy by transforming men and women into the next generation of Marines. This is one of those drill instructors.
Name: Sgt. Jacob Mackenzie
Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion
“I wanted to be able to teach [the new Marines] about life, teach them from my mistakes, and essentially mold them into something better than me. Its essentially why we do this, and why I became a drill instructor.”
