The location of Red Beach, the original landing site of the 1st Marine Division, at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, on Aug. 6, 2017. This was the Marines first offensive action against the Empire of Japan 75 years ago by seizing a floatplane base and an airfield under construction in the Solomon Islands. A monument at the site dedicated to the division’s landing at Red Beach and the mount of a heavily rusted anti-aircraft mount, possibly one for a M1 90mm anti-aircraft artillery. (U.S. Army b-roll by Staff Sgt. Armando R. Limon, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division)
