Approximately 300 personnel from the guard, reserve and partner agencies gathered at Cal Fire McClellan Reload Base for annual recertification and training April 23-27, 2018. MAFFS C-130 aircrew did water drops over Whiskey Hill in the Tahoe National Forest.
C-130 hercules aircraft are equipped with the USDA Forest Service MAFFS II which is capable of dropping 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in 6 seconds. MAFFS aircraft are activated to help out the USDA Forest service tankers when wildfire activity is high.
