Camp Pendleton firefighters along with firefighters from CAL FIRE and Orange County Fire Authority began cutting firebreaks for the installation on Camp Pendleton, April 30, 2018. The 38 miles of firebreaks being created over the next two weeks are a start to the creation of the total 164 miles of firebreaks on base used to keep fires from leaving the installation and damaging property on and off base during the rest of the fire season. Neighboring fire departments use Camp Pendleton’s fire operations as a resource to train and improve firefighting tactics they wouldn’t otherwise implement. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl.
