Residents of Shimoda, Japan and sailors from USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) enjoy a parade in celebration of the 79th Black Ship Festival. The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival promotes peaceful relations between the Japanese and American people and commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the U.S. and Japan.
