Col. Israel Romero, commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Hope, and member of the Puerto Rico National Guard, addresses the crowd during the opening day ceremony for Beyond the Horizon 2018 in El Salvador at Canton El Amate in the Zacatecoluca Municipality on May 31, 2018. Canton El Amate is one of four construction sites on which U.S. military service member engineers, along with their Salvadoran counterparts, will be constructing school buildings for the local population as part of the humanitarian aid mission. A fifth site had been selected to construct an addition to a local medical clinic. The operation is conducted in partnership with the host nation and its military. The training mission, is scheduled to run from the beginning of May until the end of July and involve more than 1800 of service members from various branches of the US Military from all over the United States. Additionally, the Task Force will be conducting five of these MEDRETE’s in which humanitarian medical services for the local populous.day ceremony
