    Video by John Kelly

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division

How exactly does Olmsted Lock and Dam hold the navigation pool?

Our Engineers actually designed a dam which lies beneath the river, until it is needed. This video talks about the critically important role the Wicket Lifter Keen plays, and how it lifts those wickets to form a dam that holds the level of the upstream navigation pool, enabling river traffic to pass safely through our newest locking facility.

Join us for the Olmsted Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, August 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. CST, where we will officially dedicate the Keen as we continue to secure the nation through infrastructure.
